I told you! It is a monster!
Now let’s see what it actually has in it.
DESIGN
Asus undoubtedly stands apart in terms of design. Its design is new. As you can see from the picture, it has got a gunmetal grey colour(Yes! That’s what they call it.) lid. It has got the awesome ROG logo in between two orange stripes. On the lower backside there are large vents(with high performance comes high heat emission :D).
Inside we’ve got a 17.3 inch, full HD(1080p) display. It has got a dual-tone(gunmetal aluminium and black soft-touch material) keyboard. It weighs 8.37pounds(~3.8kg). Its lighter than many other machines in its range.
On the left are two USB 3.0 ports, separate headphone and microphone jacks, and an SD card slot. On the right, there’s another USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port and a mini DisplayPort for video output; a pair of USB Type-C ports (one of which supports Thunderbolt 3); and an Ethernet jack.
DISPLAY
The machine’s 17.3 inch 1080p display, with NVIDIA 120Hz G-sync displays incredibly sharp images with 178-degree viewing angles(that’s serious). The screen covers an excellent 112% of the sRBG colour gamut. The brightness is 287 nits which is dimmer than the average 298 nits. Its Delta-E score is 2.4, and it doesn’t offer the most exact shades(0 being the ideal score). The average score is 1.3.
AUDIO
ASUS ROG G701VI comes with Sonic Studio II and Sonic Radar II for truly immersive gaming audio. Sonic Studio provides high-quality gaming audio, as well as improved streaming and audio recording for perfect voice pickup and noise reduction. Sonic Radar helps you detect opponents through an on-screen overlay that shows the relative position of gunshots, footsteps and other in-game sound effects. However, like most other ASUS notebooks, if you set the volume to full, the sound tends to get a bit distorted.
KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD
ROG G701VI has an anti-ghosting keyboard with 30-key rollover technology so up to 30 keystrokes can be instantaneously and correctly logged, even when you hit several of them at once. Each key is ergonomically designed to ensure solid and responsive keystrokes when typing or entering commands – making it easy for you to dominate any game. And with a new Record key and more macro keys at your disposal, everything you need is at your fingertips.
The keyboard has a shallow 1.3mm of travel and 62 grams of force is required to press the keys. ASUS has given us five macro keys at the top left, that can be customized using the ROG MacroKey software. Changes to the backlight can be made using the ROG Gaming Center only to illuminate the keys placed on the left that are most commonly used for gaming (Red is the only colour we’ve got!).
There is a 4.6X2.6-inch touchpad. Its provides enough space to move through the entire 17.3 inch display.
GAMING, GRAPHICS AND VR
ASUS ROG G701VI boasts a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPU with 8GB VRAM. The GTX 1080 is the highest end graphics card in NVIDIA’s Pascal series. Its appropriate for VR headsets.
PERFORMANCE
With 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK, 64GB of DDR4 RAM, two 512GB PCIe M.2 SSDs in a RAID0 setup and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPU with 8GB VRAM, the ROG G701VI is your dream machine. It’s enough for any productivity task (actually its more than enough).
So, its a brilliant machine. If you want smooth, lag free gaming with vivid colours and best viewing angles, you should surely get one for yourself (spoiler alert:$3500 laptop ;D).
