Facebook started experimenting with M in Messenger over a year ago as a concierge-like service powered by humans and AI. As they keep on making AI better and better, they will start rolling out elements of M that are ready for prime time. The first step is today’s roll-out of M suggestions.
M will make automated suggestions based on chat intent. These suggestions will help you get more from your Messenger experience by shortening the distance between what you need to do and getting it done. To start, here are a few things that Messenger M will be able to suggest in your existing conversations:
➡ Stickers: recommending stickers to make conversations more expressive;
➡ Payments: suggesting sending or requesting payment when appropriate, which will make squaring yesterday’s dinner really seamless;
➡ Polls: suggesting and automating the creation of a quick poll when your friend wonders whether to see a comedy or drama at the theater;
➡ Reminders: automatically suggesting making plans when you want to remember to call someone or to do something;
➡ Rides: when you’re ready to go somewhere, M will recommend requesting an Uber or Lyft;
➡ Location sharing: when you’re trying to get together, or share your ETA with someone, M will recommend sharing your location with their brand new live location sharing feature.
The more you use M suggestions, the more it’ll adapt to you and your preferences as it’s powered by AI. Facebook is rolling it out starting today in the US on both Android and iOS, and they looking forward to making it available in more countries soon. As always, give it a try when you see it, and let them know how they can make it even better for you!
Messenger M currently invite-based mode only, so won’t be getting this at Google Playstore!
