He achieved overnight success, that is what the media wrote but, success doesn’t come overnight. Born in Mumbai, it is no wonder that Roshan became a film star as both his parents had a cinematic background. His father, film director Rakesh Roshan, is the son of music director Roshan. Hrithik Roshan’s mother, Pinky, is the daughter of famed producer and director J. Om Prakash. Also, his uncle Rajesh Roshan is a famous music director.

While we know all these, many of us don’t know the problems he had to face to reach the level of stardom he has today. Everyone was surprised in 2009 when Hrithik spoke openly about his stuttering on the popular show Tere Mere Beach Mein. The interview was recounted in an article of September 26, 2009, in The Times of India titled “Stammering is Hell: Hrithik.” He stated how he was teased in his childhood for this handicap. He stated about the speech therapy he underwent trying to overcome stammering. In another interview he spoke about how he locked himself up in a hotel room rehearsing for a speech in an award show due later that day. Now we see him speaking fluently. It couldn’t have been possible if he depended totally on the therapy to cure his problem without putting in his tremendous efforts!

At the age of 21 he was diagnosed with scoliosis, a condition where the spine gets ‘S’ or ‘C’ shaped or curved. Due to this Hrithik got bed ridden for a year and was told by the doctor that he would not be able stand up properly, dancing or acting should not even be thought of. Determination, that is what he had in him. He believed that he wasn’t born to live like this. He stood up, preparing himself remarkably for his screen debut including everything acting, singing, dancing, fencing, riding etc. sessions for years. After facing headache for a long period of time when he consulted the doctor to discover the blood clot which could have been fatal if he would have kept ignoring it. On July 8, 2013 he underwent a brain surgery to remove that clot.

In 2014, while shooting for the title track of Bang Bang he had a knee injury with 40% ligament tear in both legs. The shoot of the film had already been delayed due to his brain injury. He didn’t want the crew to suffer further due to him so, he shot the song with his injured knee and we all know how good it was!

Success doesn’t come overnight. Hrithik Roshan is one of such live examples. Being a star kid it was easy for him to get a debut in Bollywood but, to retain his position even after almost two decades, this requires hard work. He started his 2017 with a super-hit movie Kaabil!
